Back to the Futures
Many confirmed red wine aficionados will remember the Futures Shiraz wines from the 80’s and 90’s.
Exciting news is that we are almost ready to offer a fantastic wine from the 2005 Vintage.
This 2005 traditional big red wine is made from grapes grown on the original 70 year old Futures Shiraz vineyard in McLaren Vale. 1984 was the first release Futures, This 17th wine will be released as a young wine but in generous balance with a dry, full finish complimented by ageing in 100% new French oak for more than 15 months. This wine has great potential and represents truly excellent value and an opportunity to mature the wine to individual requirements and is expected to live happily for many years. It will be bottled with a screw cap to ensure longevity and freshness on opening.

We began trading in 1981 with the first release wine the 1979 McLaren Vale Cabernet Shiraz, this year we celebrate; offering you the chance to try a varied selection of James Haselgrove, Blackbilly and Willunga 100, choose from seven different wines across a choice of 3 mixed dozens on the 25 Year Anniversary Price List – YOU CHOOSE, or order from the normal list.
Vintage 2006
This year’s vintage quality has been generally regarded as above average with the wines produced exhibiting great fruit and balanced acidity. Most of the picking season was ideal with only the odd day of rain affecting harvest. All fruit was picked at its optimum maturity. Our Shiraz fruit will prove to be some of the best for some years and as it quietly sits in the cellars maturing in oak. As in previous years the Pinot Gris is looking delightful with its soft and interesting fruit flavours shinning through – and flavour that just keeps coming – for later release. And this year you can choose either from the first vintage Adelaide Hills Blackbilly Sauvignon Blanc or the second vintage James Haselgrove Fleurieu Sauvignon Blanc.

2005 Blackbilly Wines Pinot Gris Fleurieu - 87
(US$15) Pink-tinged straw. Bright and racy on the nose, with mineral-laced aromas of pear, apple and honeydew melon. Fresh, weighty flavors of melon and orchard fruits accented by a note of licorice. This packs a lot of flavor, finishing with a note of pear skin and a touch of warmth.
2004 Blackbilly Wines Shiraz McLaren Vale - 90
(US$19) Deep violet. Lush, spicy and intensely floral, with strong blackberry and cherry cola aromas. Big and rich, but the flavors of cassis, blackberry and baking spices are finely etched. Offers great lift on the impressively concentrated finish, which expands and sweetens as the wine opens in the glass. A great value.
